Hey kids…we have the biggest Dinosaur Adventure Camp ever planned for you this summer (including both morning and afternoon sessions as well as Play Care before and after camp)! You can download the registration form on our website at www.akronfossils.com/camps.
Week 1: Examining the Evidence | July 9-13, 2012
Our first week of camp will focus on examining the evidence found all over the world in the fossil record. What can some of these amazing finds tell us about the past, present and future? Some key learning points are: how fossils form, sea creature preservation, the different types of fossils, geological and ecological systems, gaps and reversal sequences in the rock layers, gradualism theories, and supposed transitional “missing link” creatures!
Week 2: Fossil Graveyards | July 16-20, 2012
Our second week of summer camp will focus on what paleontologists call Fossil Graveyards. Using the clues from today, we are able to piece together what conditions might have caused the massive burials and fossil beds that we find in the rock record. Some key learning points are: more details on the fossilization process, sediment loads, carrying and re-depositing, fossil excavation, and fossil restoration!
